Police seek stolen truck's driver for attempted murder of officer
Posted By EXPOSITOR STAFF November 17 2008

Brant County OPP are looking for help to catch a driver involved in an altercation with officers early Sunday.

Police want the driver for attempted murder after a cruiser was pushed into a ditch and the driver backed up towards an officer.

An officer fired his gun at the darkcoloured pickup truck when it suddenly reversed towards him, before the truck sped off.

Police say the incident began at about 12:30 a. m. when an officer and an auxiliary officer spotted a pickup truck on War Road, near Burtch. The officers attempted to stop the truck but it sped off.

The officers followed the truck along several county roads before the driver turned onto Bateman Line and stopped abruptly.

While placing his cruiser near the truck, the car was struck on the passenger side and pushed into a ditch. The officer got out and approached the truck in an attempt to identify and arrest the suspects, the OPP said.

At that point, the truck began to back up at the OPP officer and the auxiliary officer, who was trapped inside the cruiser. The OPP officer fired his gun at the truck.

Both officers suffered minor injuries. They were treated and released from Brantford General Hospital.

Police later found the truck abandoned on Third Line at Mohawk Road on Six Nations. The truck was reported stolen from Woodstock on Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
